My Model Classroom

While I am not currently teaching,  am going to use my current town of Wakefield, MA as my location for my model classroom. Wakefield is a mid-size town of about 25,000 residents with largely middle class residents. Wakefield High School is a high school of approximately 1,000 students. The school also participates in the METCO program, which incorporates some students from the Boston area into the school system. My goal is to teach high school history, so that is going to be my focal point for my model classroom. Approximately 30% of students in Wakefield receive a free or reduced lunch. Wakefield features a number of resources for its students including a full guidance department of five guidance counselors, school adjustment counselors, school resource officers, and school psychologists.

My model classroom will take place in a 10th grade United States History classroom at Wakefield Memorial High School in Wakefield, MA. These students will be largely middle-class students that have the capabilities to bring their own electronic devices to school on a daily basis. My class will have 20 students and will be evenly split between boys and girls. My classroom will be centrally located in the building and will have plenty of natural light flowing into the classroom through windows. The students will be sophomores in an honors United States History class. These students will have varying talents, skills, and abilities including the ability to use Google Docs and Google Classroom. I will have a white c-board and a projector with full audiovisual capabilities in the classroom in order to showcase images and multimedia. My classroom will have athletes and musicians as well as students in various clubs such as drama and dance. Students will sit in my classroom in 2 blocks on either side of the room as the setup to start the class. Students will move their desks as we prepare for class discussions or small group work in order to accommodate these types of activities. As the class progresses into more group projects and work, students may move their desks into "blocks" of 4 desks to coincide with their groups of 4.
